Cast-iron buildings could be put up quickly, and some in SoHo took only four months. ## What SoHo does to a wine cooler. Cast-iron fronts were often raised over interiors framed in wood and other flammable materials, on the belief that the iron would hold back fire. Many upper floors were built as open commercial lofts for manufacturing, and artists began moving into them in the 1960s for the tall ceilings and rows of windows. The Haughwout Building at Broadway and Broome Street, put up in 1856–57, carries one of the neighborhood's best-known cast-iron facades. [All of New York Metro](https://winecoolerrepair.center/locations/new-york/) ### Older housing stock Older houses rarely planned a spot for a wine cooler, so it ends up on an old circuit shared with lamps or a window air conditioner, and a cabinet that stops whenever another load starts points to the wiring first; at any burning smell, the breaker goes off only from a dry panel. ### Tower living A tower's generator keeps the elevators and pumps running but rarely the apartments, so a wine cooler on a high floor warms with the unit in an outage, and the best plan is to keep its door shut and let the insulation hold the bottles steady as long as it can. ### Apartments and studios In a small apartment the wine cooler stands wherever it fits, in a closet, a hallway or beside the oven, and a cabinet with no room to shed its heat runs almost constantly, so clearance at the vents is the first thing a visit checks. ## A visit in SoHo.
