Every compressor wine cooler makes water. The cold plate on the back wall of the cabinet collects moisture from the air each time the door opens, lets it melt off while the compressor rests, and sends it down a small channel and drain hole into a pan near the compressor, where the warmth of the machine dries it away. When the drain hole clogs with sediment, a label that slid off a bottle or a film of mildew, the water backs up, spreads across the cabinet floor and runs out under the door. A cracked pan, a pan knocked out of place in a move, or a cabinet leaning forward instead of slightly back can send the same water onto the floor. On an undercounter unit the outlet usually sits right behind the cabinet, a few inches above that puddle, which is why water on the floor is urgent here even before the wine is at risk. Down the back wall into a channel, through a small drain hole and into a pan beside the compressor, where it evaporates. You should never see it; a puddle means that path is blocked, cracked or tilted the wrong way. ### Can I clear the drain hole myself?
