When a wine cooler shows no sign of life, the question is where the power stops. It may never reach the unit: a tripped breaker, a GFCI that opened, or a plug nudged half out when the cooler was pushed back into its opening. It may reach the unit and stop at the power section of the control board, a fuse on that board, or the cable to the display. Many models also have a power key that shuts the cooling off while the unit stays plugged in, and some stay off after an outage until someone switches them on again. A cooler that is dark but still humming is a different case: the cooling may be working while only the display or the light has failed. What should I try first? Check the breaker and any GFCI outlet, then the power key on the panel; many coolers wait to be switched back on. If nothing lights at all, the power section of the board may have taken the surge. ### The light comes on but nothing cools. Is that the same problem? No. A lit cabinet means power arrives, so the cooling side has stopped on its own: a sensor, a relay on the board or the compressor. That is a warming cabinet rather than a dead one. ### Can I bypass the GFCI to see whether the cooler works? Please do not.
