The Cord Meyer Development Company bought six farms in 1906 and renamed the combined 600 acres Forest Hills, after the neighboring Forest Park.

Forest Hills Gardens, laid out on 142 acres Margaret Sage bought in 1908, is known for the Tudor Revival houses designed by Grosvenor Atterbury.

Many of the earliest single-family houses there were drawn by the architects Robert Tappan and William Patterson.
