The control has lost a believable reading from one of its thermistors: the probe in a zone, the one on the cold plate or coil, or on some models the one watching the room. With no trustworthy number, the cabinet either chills the bottles far below cellar temperature or lets a zone drift warm. A sensor sitting in frost, pinched behind a rack or unplugged during a move is ruled out before a new one is ordered.

A fan the control expected to turn is slow, noisy or still. Inside the cabinet a small fan stirs the air so every rack sits at the same temperature; behind the grille or on the back, another carries heat away from the compressor or the hot side of a thermoelectric module. A bottle nudged against the inner fan guard, ice on a blade and dust packed into the grille are cleared before any motor is replaced.

The part that makes the cold is not keeping up. On a compressor cooler it may fail to start, start and cut out, or run on without bringing the zones down; a start relay is the cheap answer ruled out first, while a seized compressor or lost refrigerant is a sealed system job where age weighs heavily. On a thermoelectric cooler the module or its heat sink fans have weakened, and a warm room makes it worse. Keep the bottles cool while it is diagnosed.

The cooler noticed its door open for too long, or a switch that never reports it closing. The electronics that read the sensors and switch the cooling, the fans and the lights have reported a problem with themselves or lost touch with the display. A loose ribbon cable, moisture that reached the touch strip or a brief power surge is checked before a board is condemned. Boards and displays are usually specific to one model, so the number on the label matters here more than anywhere.

The cooler saw the supply voltage dip, surge or drop out, or is recording that the power was cut while nobody was home.
