What Coral Gables does
to a wine cooler.

George Merrick, a developer from Pennsylvania, built Coral Gables during the 1920s boom around a plan that made Mediterranean Revival the required style.

Homes from the 1950s make up about 18 percent of Coral Gables' housing.

About 10 percent of the city's housing, some 2,200 units, was built in 1939 or earlier.

Its tropical monsoon climate belongs to the only region of the 48 contiguous states with a tropical classification.

Older housing stock

A radiator or steam pipe beside a wine cooler in an older house heats one side of the cabinet all winter, and the bottles on that side sit warmer than the display suggests, so the repair looks at where the heat comes from.

Built-in wine columns

A panel-ready wine cooler carries a custom wood frame around its glass, and the added weight can sag the hinge until the seal no longer closes, so hinge adjustment is part of any gasket repair there.

Family houses

In a family house the wine cooler often holds juice boxes and sodas along with the wine, and a door opened many times a day keeps the cabinet swinging above its setting, so the bottles meant for keeping are best moved to the lowest racks.
