What R blinking
actually means.

Demonstration Mode is meant for showrooms. The compressor and fans never turn on, while the lights, display and buttons keep working, so the cooler looks alive but warms to room temperature. The only sign on the panel is the R indicator blinking slowly.

What to do when R blinking shows on the wine cooler

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Zephyr's own guidance for R blinking on its wine coolers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Look for the R indicator blinking slowly on the control panel.

02

Hold the Power button and tap the Decrease Temperature button twice to turn Demonstration Mode off.

03

Listen over the next few minutes for the fans and compressor to start.

04

If the R stops blinking but the cabinet still does not cool within a few hours, book a visit.

Cleared?

The display has gone quiet and the cabinet is back at its setting without a new part. Should the code reappear this week, or the reds start feeling warm again, book a visit and mention that it came back.

What not to do

A blinking R is not a failed compressor, even though the cabinet stops getting cold. It is also not Sabbath mode, where the display goes dark except for the °C/°F button.

What you may
notice with it.

The wine cooler problems R blinking tends to arrive with. Answer these at the wine cooler before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

A setting someone switched on, often by leaning on the touch panel or left over from the showroom floor, rather than a part that wore out: a demo mode that lights the display and the rack lamps while the cooling never starts, a Sabbath setting that turns off the lights and alarms, a child or control lock that ignores every key press, a reminder that the glass door stood open. The cabinet is fine, and its own keys or its manual switch the mode back off.

In Zephyr's own words

In this mode, the compressor and fans never turn on but all other functions remain enabled.

Questions
about R blinking.

Can I clear R blinking myself?
Look for the R indicator blinking slowly on the control panel.
How did my Zephyr end up in Demonstration Mode?
It can be left on from a showroom, or switched on by accident with the Power and Decrease Temperature buttons. Either way it is harmless and easy to turn off.
Will my Zephyr cool at all in Demonstration Mode?
No. The compressor and fans stay off, so the cabinet drifts to room temperature.
Is Demonstration Mode listed in Zephyr's troubleshooting?
Yes. Zephyr names it as a possible cause when the appliance is not cold enough, next to door, gasket and ventilation causes.

Back to your everyday

Still showing R blinking?

When you book, copy the code or the blink pattern as the display shows it, add the whole model number, and say whether the bottles still feel cool — a code gives the technician a head start.
