What Ed
actually means.

Ed is the defrost sensor code on older Marvel units, single and dual zone. Marvel treats it more seriously than the zone sensor codes: a unit that cannot defrost builds heavy frost, and the melt can reach the floor. Marvel says to unplug the unit immediately and have the sensor replaced.

What to do when Ed shows on the wine cooler

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Marvel's own guidance for Ed on its wine coolers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Unplug the unit, as Marvel directs; if water is already near the outlet, switch off the breaker from a dry spot first.

02

Move the wine to the coolest dark place in the house and put towels down for melting frost.

03

Book a visit for the defrost sensor.

What not to do

Ed is not a zone temperature sensor; those are Eu and EL. Frost on the back wall can have other causes, but with Ed on the display the defrost sensor comes first.

Questions
about Ed.

Can I clear Ed myself?
Unplug the unit, as Marvel directs; if water is already near the outlet, switch off the breaker from a dry spot first. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does Marvel say to unplug the unit for Ed?
Because a unit that does not defrost can build frost that later melts onto the floor. Unplugging stops the cycle until the sensor is replaced.
What do I do with the wine after unplugging?
Move it somewhere cool and dark, away from heat and sunlight. A day or two out of the unit does little harm.
Is Ed shown on current Marvel wine models?
Marvel lists it in the older keypad-model guide. Current models show HH, LL and dr on the display instead.

Still showing Ed?

When you book, copy the code or the blink pattern as the display shows it, add the whole model number, and say whether the bottles still feel cool — a code gives the technician a head start.
