What EC08
actually means.

EC08 points at the lower evaporator thermistor, the coil probe for the lower section. The control uses it to manage that coil, so a bad reading can leave frost on the coil or make the lower section cool unevenly. Sub-Zero sets it after an open or short of 10 seconds or more, or repeated inconsistent readings.

What to do when EC08 shows on the wine cooler

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Sub-Zero's own guidance for EC08 on its wine coolers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Look at the back wall of the lower section for frost or ice.

02

Reset the breaker for 30 seconds and see whether EC08 returns.

03

If it does, book a visit and let the technician see any ice before it is cleared.

What not to do

EC08 does not report the lower air temperature; that probe reports as EC07. It is also not a sealed-system problem, which Sub-Zero shows as EC15.

Questions
about EC08.

Can I clear EC08 myself?
Look at the back wall of the lower section for frost or ice. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does EC08 mean my Sub-Zero needs a new cooling system?
No. It names a probe on the coil, a much smaller repair than anything involving the sealed system.
Why is there water under my Sub-Zero after EC08 appeared?
Frost that built up on the lower coil can melt all at once when the unit finally clears it, and extra water can overflow the drain path. Wipe it up, stay clear of the outlet if water reaches it, and mention it when you book.
Is EC08 shown on single-zone Sub-Zero wine units?
Sub-Zero lists EC08 for its UW and BW wine lines, which cool upper and lower sections separately. The rating plate tells you which series you have.

Still showing EC08?

When you book, copy the code or the blink pattern as the display shows it, add the whole model number, and say whether the bottles still feel cool — a code gives the technician a head start.
