What HI
actually means.

HI is the high-temperature alarm of Thermador's 24-inch under-counter Wine Reserve. The control shows it when the air inside rises above the range it is set to hold. Thermador's list of causes is short: the door opened too often, the toe-kick vents blocked, a load of warm bottles, a hot room or sunlight, or a gasket that no longer seals.

What to do when HI shows on the wine cooler

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Thermador's own guidance for HI on its wine coolers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press ALARM once to silence the tone, then make sure the glass door closes firmly on both corners.

02

Clear anything in front of the toe-kick at the base; this is the only place the unit breathes.

03

If you just loaded many bottles, give it several hours with the door shut before judging.

04

If HI returns with the door shut and vents clear, move your most valuable bottles to the coolest dark spot in the house and book a visit.

What not to do

HI does not name a failed part; a warm room or a door left ajar triggers it just as easily. A cabinet that stays warm with the door shut, the vents clear and no new bottles added points to a fan, a sensor or the sealed system, which is where we look next.

Questions
about HI.

Can I clear HI myself?
Press ALARM once to silence the tone, then make sure the glass door closes firmly on both corners. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is my wine safe when a Thermador Wine Reserve shows HI?
A short rise of a few degrees does little harm to sealed bottles, but a cabinet that stays warm for days ages wine faster. Check the display after an hour with the door shut; if it is not falling, move the best bottles somewhere cool and dark.
Why does HI keep coming back after I silence it?
Pressing ALARM only stops the sound; the cause is still there. The usual repeat causes on this model are dust or an object at the toe-kick and a gasket that has flattened on the hinge side.
Does HI mean the upper or the lower zone is warm?
The manual does not say which zone set it off. Read both temperatures on the display: the one far above its setting is the zone to watch, and one warm zone with one normal zone suggests a zone fan or sensor rather than the compressor.

Still showing HI?

When you book, copy the code or the blink pattern as the display shows it, add the whole model number, and say whether the bottles still feel cool — a code gives the technician a head start.
