Thermador wine coolers,
specifically.

Thermador builds two kinds of wine storage for US kitchens: the 24-inch under-counter Wine Reserve with a glass door and two zones, and the Freedom wine preservation columns in 18- and 24-inch widths that sit flush in cabinetry. The two share a name but not a control, so an HI reading, a flashing ALARM light or a menu message means something different on each.

The Thermador lineup

What is particular
to Thermador.

We service the T24UW under-counter Wine Reserve family (T24UW925, T24UW915 and the panel-ready T24UW905) and the T18IW905SP and T24IW905SP Freedom wine columns. The model on the rating label decides which control, which messages and which parts apply.

Two controls under one name

The under-counter Wine Reserve uses a row of touch keys with ALARM, LOCK and SABBATH buttons and prints short codes such as HI and SAB. The Freedom columns use a menu display with a settings list, a self-test and a demo mode. We ask which one you own before reading any signal.

White on top, red below

The Wine Reserve ships with its upper zone at 46°F for whites and its lower zone at 58°F for reds. A complaint that one zone runs warm starts with which zone it is, since each has its own setting and range.

Breathing through the toe-kick

The under-counter unit takes and returns its air only at the toe-kick in the base, and Thermador tells owners to vacuum behind it. A rug, a bin or dust in front of that grille is a common reason for long run times and an HI alarm.

Humidity and a warmed front on the columns

Freedom columns can raise humidity per climate zone to keep natural corks from shrinking, and the front of the housing is gently heated to stop condensation near the seal. A damp door edge or dry corks lead us to those two functions first.

Parts

Wine Reserve racks, hinges, touch controls and sensors are matched by model and serial number, and a sealed-system part for either line is usually ordered after the first visit confirms the cause.

Repair or replace

A built-in Thermador wine unit is usually worth repairing, because most signals point to airflow, a door, a sensor or a control rather than the sealed system. When a compressor or refrigerant leak is found on an older under-counter unit, we weigh the repair against a new unit that fits the same opening.

Questions about
Thermador wine coolers.

What does HI mean on a Thermador Wine Reserve?
It is the high-temperature alarm: the inside of the under-counter unit has warmed above its range. Thermador lists frequent door openings, a blocked toe-kick, a load of warm bottles, a hot room or a worn gasket as causes; press ALARM once to silence it and book a visit if HI keeps coming back.
Why is my Thermador wine column lit up but not cooling?
Check whether demo mode is on in the settings menu. Demo mode switches cooling off while the display and lights keep working, so the column drifts to room temperature.
Can I turn off the door alarm on the under-counter Wine Reserve?
Yes. Pressing ALARM once silences it for the moment, and holding ALARM for 3 seconds turns the door-open alarm off until you hold it again. Leave it on if the unit is in a busy kitchen, since a door left ajar warms both zones.
How often should the Thermador under-counter unit be cleaned underneath?
Thermador asks owners to remove the toe-kick and vacuum the reachable area whenever it is dusty. With pets or carpet nearby, checking every few months keeps the compressor from running longer than it should.
