What EL
actually means.

The Connoisseur and Butler manuals say EL or EH means the air temperature sensor in the matching zone has failed. Because these coolers keep two zones with separate settings, the code tells you one zone has lost its reading while the other may carry on normally.

What to do when EL shows on the wine cooler

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Vinotemp's own guidance for EL on its wine coolers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Note which code is shown and in which zone's display it appears.

02

Check that zone with a thermometer, and move bottles into the zone that is still steady if there is room.

03

Stop adjusting the setting for the affected zone; without a sensor the change will not take effect.

04

Book a visit and have the model number from the label ready, since sensors differ by series.

What not to do

EL and EH are not high and low temperature alarms, even though the letters suggest it. On older VT-DS models those alarms read HI and LO.

What you may

The wine cooler problems EL tends to arrive with. Answer these at the wine cooler before anyone is booked.

Questions
about EL.

Can I clear EL myself?
Note which code is shown and in which zone's display it appears. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does EH mean my Vinotemp is too hot?
No. On Connoisseur and Butler models both EL and EH name a failed air sensor in one zone. The manuals do not use them as temperature alarms.
Will the other zone keep working while EL shows?
The manual only names the zone that lost its sensor. Check both zones with a thermometer and keep the valuable bottles in whichever one is holding steady.
Is an EL repair a big job on a Vinotemp?
Usually not. The sensor is one part that is tested with a meter and replaced, and most of the visit goes into confirming that the sensor, not its wiring or the board, is to blame.

Still showing EL?

When you book, copy the code or the blink pattern as the display shows it, add the whole model number, and say whether the bottles still feel cool — a code gives the technician a head start.
