What TEL
actually means.

TEL is the G5 low evaporator temperature alarm. Perlick asks you to run a defrost, check that the door shuts and the gasket seals, and make sure bottles are not blocking the evaporator fan or its louvered inlets. TEY is the extra low version, which calls for a manual defrost.

What to do when TEL shows on the wine cooler

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Perlick's own guidance for TEL on its wine coolers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Run a defrost cycle using the G5 display.

02

Check the door and gasket, and pull back any bottles pressed against the fan cover or inlets.

03

If TEL returns within a week, book a visit.

It usually turns into wine cooler compressor and sealed system repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

TEL is not a zone temperature alarm; the wine may be fine. The coil probe has a separate code, PEF.

What you may
notice with it.

The wine cooler problems TEL tends to arrive with. Answer these at the wine cooler before anyone is booked.

Questions
about TEL.

Can I clear TEL myself?
Run a defrost cycle using the G5 display. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why would bottles cause TEL on a Perlick?
Bottles pushed against the fan or its louvered inlets block airflow over the coil, and the coil gets too cold.
What is TEY?
Extra low evaporator temperature. Perlick asks for a manual defrost and service if it repeats within a week.
Will TEL go away after a defrost?
If the cause was frost from door openings, usually yes. If it comes back, the door seal, airflow or fan needs checking.

Still showing TEL?

When you book, copy the code or the blink pattern as the display shows it, add the whole model number, and say whether the bottles still feel cool — a code gives the technician a head start.
