Bertazzoni wine coolers,
specifically.

In the US, Bertazzoni's wine storage is a built-in column in two widths, 18 and 24 inches, sold in its Professional, Master and Heritage series. Every column keeps two temperature zones for red and white wine, lets you choose a humidity level, and reports problems on a touch-and-scroll display in words rather than numbers.

The Bertazzoni lineup

What is particular
to Bertazzoni.

We work on the REF18WCP and REF24WCP wine columns in stainless (IX) or panel-ready (PR) versions, left or right hinged. The 18-inch column holds 52 bottles and the 24-inch holds 80.

Messages in words

The display spells out Power Failure, Door open, a zone too warm or too cold, and Check Cond. Anything the owner cannot fix appears as Error Code with a number that Bertazzoni leaves to the technician.

Three humidity settings

Low, medium and high humidity are chosen on the panel, with medium as the default. A low setting in a dry room is one of the first things we look at when corks start to shrink.

The zones limit each other

When the upper zone is set below 54°F, the lower zone must stay at 50°F or colder. A lower zone that will not accept a warmer setting is following that rule, not failing.

Condenser behind the toe kick

The condenser sits behind the front toe kick cover and should be vacuumed every six months. The Check Cond reminder is off by default, so it only appears if someone switched it on.

Parts

Boards, fans and sensors are ordered to the exact REF model and serial number and can take time to arrive. Handle kits such as PROHKCOL and the wooden shelves are simpler catalog items.

Repair or replace

A Bertazzoni column is fitted into the cabinetry, and most of its messages point to a door, a zone setting, a dusty condenser or one part, so repair is the usual answer. Only a sealed-system failure on an aging column makes replacement worth weighing.

Questions about
Bertazzoni wine coolers.

Where does a Bertazzoni wine column show its error number?
Touch the Alarm button and the display shows the message with its number for 3 seconds before going back to the home screen. Write the number down for the technician; Bertazzoni does not publish what each one means.
Why is my new Bertazzoni column showing alarms on its first day?
Bertazzoni asks owners to wait at least 12 hours after first switching it on before opening the door or loading bottles, and to silence messages with the Alarm button in that time. Alarms that continue after the column has settled deserve a closer look.
Does the Bertazzoni glass door block UV light?
Yes. The door is tinted triple glass with UV protection, and the compressor sits on a vibration damping system so the bottles are not disturbed.
Why will my Bertazzoni lower zone not go above 50°F?
Because the upper zone is set below 54°F. In that case the manual keeps the lower zone at 50°F or colder, so raise the upper zone first if you want a warmer lower zone.
