KitchenAid wine coolers,
specifically.

KitchenAid's wine storage is a family of 24-inch undercounter units that KitchenAid calls wine cellars, holding 46 bottles in two zones behind a UV-protected glass door. They are designed to sit flush with the cabinets on hidden hinges, which shapes most door and airflow repairs.

The KitchenAid lineup

What is particular
to KitchenAid.

We work on KitchenAid 24-inch undercounter wine units such as the KUWR314 with metal-front racks and the KUWL524 with wood-front racks. The model on the label tells us which racks and trim apply.

Flush fit on hidden hinges

The door sits flush with the cabinet fronts yet swings open a full 115 degrees on hidden hinges. When a hinge shifts, the door can stop just short of its switch and set off the door alarm.

Two zones with different reach

The top zone runs 42 to 54°F for whites and the bottom zone 42 to 64°F for reds. A top zone that will not reach 60°F is behaving as designed.

An alarm that means service

KitchenAid's temperature monitoring raises an over-temp alarm when the cabinet has been above 70°F for more than 4 hours. KitchenAid itself describes that as the point where service is needed.

Lights that sense you

Motion-activated LEDs come on as you approach and dim away afterward. In Sabbath Mode those lights and the alarm tones are switched off, which can look like a failure.

Parts

We order racks, hinges, gaskets and controls against the serial number on the unit. Hidden-hinge parts are specific to the flush design and are not always stocked locally.

Repair or replace

Most KitchenAid wine unit problems, from doors to controls, are worth repairing on a unit built into cabinetry. When an older unit's compressor or refrigerant circuit gives out, a new unit that fits the same 24-inch opening is worth comparing.

Questions about
KitchenAid wine coolers.

What do E1, E2, HI or LO mean on my KitchenAid wine cooler?
KitchenAid lists them as error codes for its undercounter wine units but does not publish what they mean. The single step it offers is a one-minute power-down at the breaker or plug; a code that survives that needs a technician, so book a visit.
Why won't the top zone of my KitchenAid wine cooler go warmer than 54°F?
The top zone is designed for whites and tops out at 54°F. The bottom zone goes to 64°F for reds.
Why does the light in my KitchenAid wine cooler not come on as I walk up?
Check whether Sabbath Mode is on, since it disables the automatic lights. If it is off and the light still does not respond, the sensor or LED needs a look.
