U-Line wine coolers,
specifically.

U-Line is an undercounter specialist, and its Wine Captain line goes back to 1985. Its wine units come in 15, 18 and 24-inch single-zone and dual-zone models plus a 36-inch dual-zone unit, with indoor and outdoor versions. Which control generation you have decides how the unit reports a problem.

The U-Line lineup

What is particular
to U-Line.

We work on U-Line Wine Captain and current 1, 3 and 5 Class wine units (HWC, URWC, HWD, URWD), 2000 Series units such as the 2224ZWC, and the 3000 Series 3036WCWC. Each generation has its own control and its own way of showing problems.

Two display styles

Most U-Line wine units show only a short door alert, dr, and keep other problems in a service log. The 3000 Series spells its alerts out, such as Temp Hi 6H+ or Zone T Open, with L or R for the side.

Front-breathing design

U-Line units draw air through the front grille, which is why some models can sit built in or freestanding. A blocked grille or a dusty condenser is a common reason a zone runs warm.

Indoor and outdoor models

Some U-Line wine units are built for indoor and outdoor use, while indoor models are designed for rooms between 50°F and 100°F. We check the model against where it is installed before blaming a part.

Six-month condenser interval

U-Line asks for the condenser to be cleaned every six months, more often in dusty rooms. We clean it on every visit, since it affects every temperature complaint.

Parts

Controls, sensors and fans are matched to the full model and serial number on the rating plate. Door and display parts on the 3000 Series can come as a complete door, which may take longer to arrive.

Repair or replace

An undercounter U-Line wine unit is usually worth repairing when the problem is a sensor, fan, door switch or control. A failed compressor on an older unit is the point where replacement is worth comparing.

Questions about
U-Line wine coolers.

Why does my U-Line wine unit only show dr and nothing else?
On most U-Line wine units dr is the only alert shown on the display. Other problems go into a service log that a technician reads in service mode.
Can a U-Line wine unit go outdoors?
Only the models U-Line rates for it. Some wine units are built for indoor and outdoor use; indoor models are designed for rooms between 50°F and 100°F.
What humidity does a U-Line wine unit hold?
U-Line describes its Wine Captain models as keeping about 50% internal relative humidity along with stable temperatures and UV protection.
Why is my U-Line cold on one side and warm on the other?
Dual-zone U-Line units control each side separately. On the 3000 Series the display tells you which side with L or R.
